The first Transcatheter Aortic Valve replacement in Acadiana took place last week at Regional Medical Center of Acadiana.
This procedure typically requires open heart surgery. But with the new technology, doctors are able to replace the valve by going through a small incision in the leg or left side of the chest.
Today we met up with the first patient to have that procedure. 83 year old Lula Veronie says she is looking forward to getting back to the things she loves most, like gardening. She is also looking forward to celebrating her 84th birthday this weekend.
Regional Medical Center of Acadiana is the only hospital in Acadiana to offer this new technology and one of only three hospitals in the entire state. If you'd like more information about this procedure, you can visit www.RegionalHeartValve.com
