Unrestrained Driver Dies In Crash

Last night, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a fatal crash on LA Highway 342 near Riceland Road which claimed the life of a Rayne man.
According to investigating Troopers, on January 29, 2013, at 11:49 p.m., a 2008 Dodge truck driven by 49-year-old Troy Sarver of Rayne was traveling east no LA Highway 342.  For reasons still under investigation, Sarver traveled off the left side of the road, overcorrected to the right and overturned in a ditch.  Sarver, who was not restrained, was pronounced dead by the Lafayette Parish Coroner.
It is unknown if Sarver was impaired; however, toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.  This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers remind drivers that Louisiana Law requires all occupants of motor vehicles to be properly restrained.  While wearing a seatbelt will not save you in every crash, it will greatly reduce the risk of injuries in most crashes.
