Last night, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a fatal crash on US Highway 190 east of LA Highway 752 which claimed the life of a 7-year-old Church Point girl.
According to investigating Troopers, on January 28, 2013, at 7:18 p.m., 2011 Ford truck driven by 67-year-old Vincent Fruge of Eunice was traveling west on US Highway 190. A 2010 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 22-year-old Ryan Godeaux of Eunice was traveling behind Fruge. Kendessa Castile, 7-years-old from Church Point, was attempting to cross the westbound lanes of US Highway 190 when she was struck by Fruge and Godeaux's vehicles.
Castile was pronounced dead by the St. Landry Parish Coroner. Neither Fruge nor Godeaux were injured in the crash.
Routine toxicology samples were obtained and will be submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis. This crash remains under investigation.
Troopers remind pedestrians that you should not cross a roadway unless it is at a crosswalk or intersection. Pedestrians should look both ways before crossing the street and only do so when it is safe. At night, Troopers recommend pedestrians wear light colored or reflective clothing.
