Victim’s Family Seeks Funeral Assistance

A family is coping with the sudden death of their daughter and sister while trying to fund her funeral.

18 year old Gabrielle Spencer was found unresponsive with severe bruising on Wednesday, January 16th. She was transported to an area hospital where she later died of her injuries. Her live-in boyfriend, Adam Batiste has been charged with second degree murder.

Her mother, Pamela Harris said she struggles to cope with the idea that her daughter was in pain.

"It kills my heart to know that she suffered like that. She didn't deserve that. No one deserves that."

Spencer and Batiste dated for almost a year. Pamela said she was suspicious of Batiste, but her daughter never gave any indication that she was in trouble.

"She never showed any signs of depression or signs of abuse. I've never seen any bruises on her, cause if I had known, all of this would have been taken care of and my daughter would still be alive."

Kellie Harris, Spencer's sister, said she never knew of any history of abuse by Batiste. She said keeping her sister's memory alive is her main goal.

"When we were little, she would always she was going to go to Paris. My sister and I are going to fulfill that dream for her."

Pamela also remembers her daughter smile, spirit and goals. She said she is trusting that justice will be served, so Gabrielle can rest in peace.

"They have all the evidence that they need, they don't need anything else. I just want justice to be served so that we can have some closure."

The family plans to bury Spencer soon. Due to a lack of life insurance, a fundraiser has been established by the family to help with burial costs.
