
What should have been a day full of celebration has turned into tragedy in the Hub City. Not even half a block away from a ceremony honoring Dr Martin Luther King Jr. A 20 year old man was gunned down in a crowd of hundreds of people.
On January 21, 2013, at approximately 7:15 pm, Lafayette Police were in the area of the 400 block of Hilda Street when a disturbance occurred. There was a large crowd of people in the roadway when officers heard a gunshot. Officers found the 20 year old male victim collapsed on the ground from a gunshot wound in front of a residence. The victim was transported to an area hospital and later pronounced dead. One individual trying to run from the scene was detained and is being questioned by police. Detectives continue to interview witnesses about the shooting and are asking anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact Lafayette Police or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
