Opelousas Shooting Arrest


At 6:41pm Monday evening Opelousas Police Department was notified of a shooting on Short Vine St near Hirsch Alley. Upon arrival officers observed 32 year old Timothy Reed of Opelousas suffering from a gunshot wound to his left arm. The suspect was identified as a black male wearing a black hoodie driving a black truck. Officers were able to ID the suspect as 27 year old Jermaine Andrus of Opelousas. At 8:03pm as officers converged on the area of Opelousas know as "The Hill" the black truck was located traveling on East Jefferson St. Jermaine Andrus was taken into custody without incident. Andrus was positively identified through a photo lineup by the victim who remains in the hospital awaiting surgery. The victim is considered stable and his injury to be non-life threatening.
Jermaine Andrus of 824 W Grolee St Opelousas has been charged with Attempted 2nd degree murder and convicted felon in possession of a firearm and presently in the Opelousas City Jail
Officers were able to determine that the two were involved in a dice game when an altercation started between the two.
