5 Hurt in New Orleans Shooting After King Parade

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Five people were injured by gunfire near a New Orleans intersection where a parade celebrating the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday had passed earlier.

Police spokeswoman Remi (RAY' mee) Braden said investigators do not believe any of the injuries was life-threatening.

Braden said the victims were all 17 or 18. They were gathered around a store about 1 p.m. Monday when the shooting happened. She said surveillance video from the store shows a white car driving up to the group. An occupant shot at the group from the car's sunroof before the car drove off.

Police hoped to release the video later Monday. The shooting happened less than an hour after the parade had passed. Police responded and said the situation was brought quickly under control.
