Residents for the tenth year in a row paraded down Willow Street in Lafayette on Sunday to honor Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. In line with Dr. King's integrationist philosophies, people of every race, age and gender were encouraged to participate.
Although the parade was in honor of Dr. King, event officials were cognizant that the second swearing in of the first black president was also taking place Sunday and wanted to recognize the significance of both men.
Some residents came to honor President Obama as well as support the memory of Dr. King and their loved ones participating in the parade.
Participants in today's parade ranged everywhere from local DJs to local high school marching bands.
Some residents were more reluctant to march in the parade and just came with their loved ones to enjoy a sunny afternoon full of entertainment.
