Barna Haynes, the Lafayette District Attorney secretary who recently resigned as a result of a federal bribe investigation, plead guilty to investigators Monday.
It was announced today during a press conference at the federal courthouse building in downtown Lafayette.
U.S. Attorney Stephanie Finley says, Haynes who is 58 years old, admitted to taking $55,000 in bribes for four years, from 2008 to 2012.
The report says Haynes accepted those monies from a co-conspirator who would solicit large payments from people facing a variety of crimes, a majority being OWI cases.
"Haynes also prepared expungement paperwork associated with the co conspirators clients cases and in return for coordinating these 894 cases Ms. Haynes was paid $500 per case" says US Attorney Stephanie Finley.
Tonight at 10:00 PM News 10's Doug MacDiarmid will take a deeper look at Haynes' plea deal and explain what she did after receiving those bribe payments.
