Lex Trahan Avenue

Tuesday night's Lafayette city-parish council meeting was emotional for a local family after a street was named honoring their son. Lance Corporal Lex David Trahan of Lafayette lost his life during a terrorist attack while fighting in Beirut, Lebanon. The 1982 Comeaux High graduate joined the marine's right after high school and was killed the same year.

Twenty Nine years later the Lafayette city parish government honors the marine by naming a street off of South Beadle, Lex D. Trahan Lane. Trahan's father, Blackie Trahan, says he is so proud of his son. That after he and his wife are gone Lex's name will still be around and that makes him so happy. Lex's mother Shirley Trahan wants to thank the city of Lafayette for honoring her son the way they did.

She says this wouldn't have been possible without the help from city-parish councilman Donald Bertrand who got the ball rolling on naming the street after her son. The street sign should be up within a week to ten days, weather permitting.
