At the end of this month, terminally ill patients could have a harder time getting end of life care here in Louisiana. Last month the state department of health and hospitals announced the state's medicaid program will no longer pay for hospice care.
Patients already receiving hospice care through medicaid will not be affected, but the medicaid cuts will stop new patients from receiving that medicaid assistance.
The cuts are a result of a 165 million dollar budget shortfall the state must deal with by July. Gov. Bobby Jindal's administration passed the brunt of those cuts onto the state's health care system.
