Authorities have identified the person killed in an accident on I-10.
Troopers say 47 year old Christopher Attinelli of Charlotte, North Carolina died after his vehicle left the road, crossed the median and was struck by another car. It happened shortly before 9:00 pm on January 2nd on I-10 westbound, west of LA highway 77 in Iberville Parish.
The crash happened as Attinelli was driving a 1998 Ford Mustang eastbound on I-10. For unknown reasons, Attinelli's Mustang entered the median and crossed into the westbound lanes of I-10. The Mustang entered into the path of and was struck on the passenger side by a westbound 2000 Toyota pickup truck driven by 22 year old Nixon Alexander of Baton Rouge.
Attinelli, who was not wearing his seatbelt, was ejected from the Mustang and sustained fatal injuries from the crash. Alexander and a passenger in his Toyota were properly restrained and suffered only minor injuries. Impairment on the part of Attinelli is unknown at this time; however, Troopers have submitted a toxicology sample from Attinelli to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for analysis.
One person was killed in a multi-car accident on Interstate 10 that blocked traffic for hours. The westbound lanes of I-10 just west of Baton Rouge were closed until around 12:30 a.m. Thursday as a result of the accident. Authorities said it happened around 9 p.m. Wednesday in Iberville Parish when an eastbound car crossed the median into the westbound lanes.
