Local Gun Sales Skyrocket

Posted:

Mark LeBlanc is the Operations Director at Barney's Firearms and Indoor Range. LeBlanc believes people are buying ahead of the ban on the sale of military-style assault weapons and high capacity magazines. Some people are buying for economic gain. "Because in the last ban people would buy pre-banned guns wait until the ban went into effect and them move them on the market for 2 to 3 times what they originally sold for."

Like other gun retailers - Barney's is sold out - distributors are said to have sold three years of product. LeBlanc doesn't support the ban. In fact, he says farmers are known to use assault rifles to deal with animals that can easily do thousands of dollars in damage.  "You need a weapon capable of accuracy at a significant range, but with enough fire power to deal with herd animals."

As a former police officer LeBlanc says a weapon never assaulted anybody, people do that. LeBlanc would like to see mental health make it the top of the president's agenda. "In the end we don't need your feel good moves and pass this law to make everybody think everything is okay."

LeBlanc says sales in a week's time frame - at Barney's - is 5 to 6 times more than what is normally sold during that time period.
