OPELOUSAS, La. (AP) - For the first time in almost two years, sales tax growth in St. Landry Parish has stalled.
According to figures released by the St. Landry Parish School Board, which tracks sales tax numbers for the parish, collections fell by 9 percent in November, the first drop in the past 23 months.
Last November's parish-wide sales tax total was just over $5 million compared to this year's total of $4.5 million -- a drop of nearly $455,000.
Despite the overall decline, The Daily World reports collections remained in the black in Opelousas and Eunice - remained in the black.
Opelousas' collections were up a modest 1 percent from the same month the year before while Eunice reported a 5 percent gain.
