Abbeville Police are investigating a fatal shooting that occurred early Friday morning. Around 8:00am police responded to a call in the 200 block of Eaton Drive. When authorities arrived, they found one man shot to death inside a home. At the time, no arrests have been made.
Crime tape surrounds the home in Abbeville, but the street remains a quiet part of the neighborhood block.
Police are still investigating exactly what happened, since neighbors, like Debra Richard, didn't see anything suspicious.
"One of the police officers approached me and asked me if I had seen anything going on across the street and I said ‘no, we hadn't seen nothing'," said Richard.
Richard says she didn't really know her neighbors living inside the home. But was surprised to hear what happened, especially since Eaton Elementary School is just one block away.
"This is such a quiet neighborhood, no kids are ever even running around," said Richard, "It's really unexpected to see something like this across the street happen."
And this latest homicide brings Abbeville's yearly total to six, three in the last month. But, neighbors say, it's not enough to shake their nerves.
"I do feel safe in this neighborhood," said Richard. "We have a good law enforcement agency over here. They'll do their best. "
