Desperado's Liquor License to Remain Suspended

Posted: Updated:

Baton Rouge, LA: Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco Control (ATC) Commissioner Troy Hebert ruled this morning to continue the suspension of the alcoholic beverage permit held by Desperados of Acadiana Inc d/b/a Desperados Cabaret, located at 3730 N.E. Evangeline Thruway, Carencro. The Commissioner ruled that the alcoholic beverage permit will remain suspended indefinitely pending the outcome of legal proceedings stemming from a recent federal Grand Jury indictment that charges the business owner with maintaining a drug-involved premises at the business location.

Desperados Cabaret's alcoholic beverage permit was initially suspended on December 5, 2012 following an on-going investigation by various law enforcement agencies into suspected illegal conduct at the business.

Desperado's Federal Investigation Update

Wednesday, Desperado's Gentlemen's club, the Carencro strip club that was busted for running an alleged drug and prostitution operation, will find out if they can reopen and continue to operate.

The club was raided December 5th which led to the arrest of employees and owner James Panos.

Panos was charged with federal drug violations and bonded out. But Desperado's liquor license was suspended by the office of alcohol and tobacco control. Wednesday, a state judge will rule whether to uphold or terminate that suspension.

Desperado's Federal Investigation Update

Federal prosecutors are seeking to seize gentleman's club Desperado's Cabaret as part of the case against the Carencro strip club's owner, who was arrested earlier this month in an investigation of drugs and prostitution at the business.

James Panos (54) was booked Dec. 5 on a federal complaint charging him with "maintaining drug-involved premises" in connection what federal agents have alleged was open drug dealing by dancers and other employees at the club. A federal grand jury last week indicted Panos on the charge.

Panos' attorney disputes whether the club's owner had direct knowledge of an illegal activity at the club. Panos is set for arraignment on Jan. 17.
