Fire Destroys Family's Home

A fire destroyed the home of a family of four in Forked Island. The home was located in the 200 block of Leo Road and caught fire just after 2:00PM Thursday afternoon. Officials say the homeowner was home at the time of the blaze, but was able to safely escape.

It took firefighters about three hours to extinguish the blaze. According to the homeowner, the house is a total loss and the family lost everything. If you'd like to donate clothing or help the family, you can contact the American Red Cross, which is assisting the family. An account has been set up in the Edna Bourdreaux family's name at Kaplan State Bank.

You can make donations at Kaplan or Forked Island branch of the bank.
