Over the Thanksgiving Holidays the state police investigated 13 automobile accidents across the state that resulted in 14 fatalities.
Of those 14 deaths 6 occurred on roads in the Acadiana area. Seven of the 14 involved victims who were not wearing seat belts. And in at least two of the crashes state police say driver impairment was a factor in the crash.
More recently troopers have issued 150 citations for not wearing a seat belt. The crack down is in response to the increase in fatalities that happen around the holidays.
