The Lafayette City-Parish Council has voted to enforce new land-use regulations for the unincorporated portions of Lafayette Parish.
In August, the council approved an ordinance creating land-use regulations for the unincorporated portions of the parish, which are not subject to Lafayette city zoning laws.
The law aims to protect residential areas from being burdened by new developments that may come with industrial or business uses.
Last night, the council first rejected a request from a developer to waive some of the new requirements and then approved a plan to build another development that would follow the new guidelines.
