Lafayette, LA – Traffic investigators with the Lafayette Police Department have arrested the operator of the white Ford pickup in connection with the November 5, 2012, crash. Investigators were able to determine through the investigation that the driver of the Ford pickup was stopped in the lane of travel on I-10 at the time of the crash. As a result of the ongoing investigation and the return of the toxicology report, Joey Fontenot (21) of Lafayette was arrest today without incident on a warrant for OWI and Vehicular Homicide. In addition to those charges, Fontenot was cited for No Insurance and Impeding the Flow of Traffic. The crash remains under investigation.
Traffic investigators advise that one person has died as the result of injuries received in a crash on November 3, 2012, at approximately 2:45 am. The driver of a white Ford F-350 was traveling east on Interstate 10, when for unknown reasons was struck in the rear by the driver of a black 2009 Chevrolet Colorado. Both drivers were transported to area hospitals in critical condition. The driver of the Chevrolet Colorado, Kelly Theriot (25) of St Martinville, died as a result of his injuries received in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
