Saturday November 11 2012, Troopers with Louisiana State Police Troop I investigated a two vehicle crash on US Highway 90 east of LA Highway 668 that left one woman dead and the two drivers arrested.
According to investigating Troopers, at 12:25 p.m., 77-year-old Marjorie McGee of Jeanerette, was driving a 1998 Toyota Camry north on Pepper Road approaching US Highway 90. A 2000 Harley Davidson, driven by 39-year-old Charles Burnett of New Iberia, was traveling east on US Highway 90 approaching Pepper Road. For reasons still under investigation, McGee failed to stop at the two-way stop sign on Pepper Road and entered US Highway 90. After entering US Highway 90, McGee stopped in the eastbound lanes of travel. Burnett struck the side of McGee's vehicle which caused he and his passenger, 40-year-old Dottie Burnett of New Iberia, to be ejected from the vehicle.
Dottie Burnett, who was wearing a DOT helmet, was pronounced dead by the St. Mary Parish Coroner. Charles Burnett sustained severe injuries and was transported to a local hospital. McGee sustained minor injuries and was also transported to a local hospital. A passenger in McGee's vehicle, 79-year-old Mary Crosby of Jeanerette, sustained minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
When McGee is released from the hospital, she will be booked into the St. Mary Parish Jail for reckless operation, disregarding a stop sign, improper stopping and two counts vehicular negligent injuring.
When he is released from the hospital, Burnett will be booked for DWI 1st offense.
Additional charges are pending the outcome of the investigation. This crash remains under investigation.
