The public service commission is investigating if Louisiana's inmates pay too much to make phone calls from prison. According to Chairman Foster Campbell, the average cost for a 10-minute call exceeds $3.00.
Thats about 30-cents a minute compared to 2-cents on the outside. Jail phone companies also charge extra fees, something the LPSC is looking into as well.
The commission investigated inmate calling services about 20 years ago and found widespread abuse.
It ordered more than a million dollars in refunds.
