
Retail sales fell in October for the first time in four months. Auto dealers, furniture, electronics and hardware stores all saw a drop in business. But sales at grocery stores and gas stations actually increased. That didn't help the overall average, though. The U-S Census Bureau is reporting a decrease in sales of 0.3-percent for last month. The agency also says it could not precisely measure the impact from Superstorm Sandy. But that the storm did distort the data.
