One resident in Crowley is continuing her war on violence. Two weeks ago, Vicki Cormier organized and lead a march on West Hutchinson Avenue in Crowley. The road was were one of Cormier's friends, Greginald Jones was found murdered earlier in the month. Although dozens of residents supported and marched with Cormier, after the recent shooting, she is unsure if her message is reaching the community.
"What was the purpose of the march?" she began, "My purpose was to get across to the community that enough violence is enough. I was hoping people would have understood where we were coming from."
Although no one was injured in the shooting, Cormier feels like the violence will never end.
"They're shooting in broad daylight and our kids are out there."
Cormier said she refuses to stop , and will push harder to make sure her message is heard. She said after receiving feedback on the march from the community, she already has more ideas in the works.
"Someone has to stand-up and I did. They are coming up to me and telling me thank you."
According to police, they are still investigating the matter. Chief K.P. Gibson said shots were fired at an empty vehicle, and that no one was injured. They are asking anyone with information to contact their office at 337-788-4114.
