No decision yet about how to spend $30 million on six Lafayette Parish Schools. The school board met Wednesday and even held a workshop.
Nancy Romero is a Lafayette Parish school teacher. She says the administration met with the staff of N.P. Moss Prep. Romero is wanting the same open communication for other parish school teachers. N.P. Moss will soon house in-school suspended students. "I hope you understand the concerns that the dedicated and committed educators of this district has for the students entrusted to our care; and that you and the superintendent will address these issues immediately. We want to teach, but we want to be safe." Romero says it's been reported that about 230 students have been arrested since school began.
The board also held a workshop Wednesday on the spending of $30 million. Six schools are on the proposed list. Superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper is optimistic all questions have been answered. "People just want to make sure we use the money for the right thing and that we have an explanation for that."
The Director of Career and Technical Education spoke on behalf of David Thibodaux Stem Magnet. He says once completed Thibodaux will be the envy of other school districts. The renovation request list for that school is at $9 million. "I really believe that when this is complete we won't have to go see them, they'll come see us," adds Burnell Lejune.
