Melville Chief Recall - KLFY News 10

Melville Chief Recall

A petition is being circulated calling for the recall of Melville Police Chief John McKeel.  Melissa Montgomery, one of the petition organizers, says she has a personal issue with the chief, saying he has failed to adequately investigate attacks and threats to her family members.  Montgomery says petition organizers have already collected 250 of the 360 needed signatures to force a recall election. That total represents 40 percent of the town's registered voters.  McKeel, who has been chief for the past 16 years, says everything is going smoothly.  Montgomery also accused McKeel of threatening people who sign the petition. McKeel strongly denied that charge.  The completed petition must be submitted no later than 4:30 p.m. on Dec. 13.
