ROBERT, La. (AP) - State police have arrested a 58-year-old Covington man for drunken driving following a two-vehicle crash near Robert that left two children with critical injuries.
Trooper Nick Manale tells The Advocate (http://bitly.com/UtNJ0N) 35-year-old Nichole Young, of Ponchatoula, along with her two children, a 5-year-old daughter and 14-year-old son, were traveling north in their car on La. 445 at about 8 p.m. Saturday.
Manale says the crash occurred when Stephen Herbert Jr. turned the pickup he was driving into the path of Young's car.
Young was moderately injured in the crash while her two children were critically injured and were airlifted to Interim LSU Public Hospital in New Orleans.
Herbert was booked on three counts of first-degree vehicular negligent injuring, second-offense DWI and failure to yield while turning left at an intersection.
