Veterans Drivers Licenses

Posted: Updated:

NEW ORLEANS (AP) - The state Office of Motor Vehicles will have its mobile unit at the National World War II Museum and will open 44 offices across the state from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday so veterans can get new driver's licenses or ID cards honoring their service.

A spokeswoman for state Veterans Affairs Secretary Lane Carson says the new licenses can be used at retailers which have discounts for veterans. But Robin Keller says they won't substitute for the official papers needed for state or federal veterans' programs.

Carson says that as secretary and a combat-wounded Vietnam veteran, he urges all veterans in Louisiana to accept the recognition of their service.

Veterans must bring proof of their service to get the new licenses or ID cards.
