Downtown Lafayette Living

Picture more residential living in downtown Lafayette. Hub City leaders are closer to making that vision a reality.  Downtown Summit One will be held Tuesday, October 30 at the Acadiana Center for the Arts.  The meeting Tuesday will solely focus on comprehensive planning for downtown.

Michael Breaux of lives in downtown Lafayette. Breaux supports more residential living. "It has given me a lot of advantages to see what they have downtown and to come and enjoy myself down here," says Breaux.

A common concern for those considering the downtown living option is parking. Spaces are often limited. "If you can find the good that outweighs the bad, then you're going to always have a good time," adds Breaux.

Durel says the group that's helping with the comprehensive plan and summit understands what it takes to revitalize a downtown community. "Taking an area that has really gone down and finding what it is that it needs," says Durel.

LCG President Joey Durel says the downtown summit is a chance to get some insight. City and parish leaders will be there. Durel hopes the public will be present too. "If you want your property values in far south Lafayette or far north Lafayette to increase, then that is aided by having a good healthy downtown," explains Durel.
