LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - The two Republican congressmen fighting each other for re-election to the 3rd District have scheduled their first debate in advance of the Nov. 6 election.
The campaigns of U.S. Reps. Charles Boustany and Jeff Landry say the candidates will square off Wednesday - Halloween night - on a Lafayette talk radio station, KPEL 96.5 FM.
The debate is set to begin at 5 p.m.
Landry had accused Boustany of dodging debates, a claim Boustany's campaign called ridiculous. The two men had participated in candidate forums but never in a debate format.
Boustany and Landry were forced into the same southwest Louisiana-based district when Louisiana lost a congressional seat after the latest federal census. Three other candidates also are in the race, but have done little fundraising.
