Shooting Suspect Turns Himself In

The person of interest wanted in connection with a shooting that took place Saturday afternoon in the town of Iota, in Acadia Parish, has turned himself in to authorities.

According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon, Jarrett M. Andrews, age 23, 1000 block of Lyman Street. Rayne was booked into the Acadia Parish Sheriff at approximately 11:30 p.m. charged with 1st Degree Murder.  His bond was set at $350,000 by District Judge Kristian Earles.

The victim is now being identified as Nathaniel Wiltz, age 23 of the 200 block of Section Street, Rayne.   

The Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office was assisted in the investigation by the Acadia Parish Coroner's Office and Iota Police Department.

 

According to Acadia Parish Sheriff Wayne Melancon his office received a call from a female that reported a shooting in the 100 block of John Circle in Iota.

Upon arrival at the scene deputies found a 23 year old male subject dead from a fatal gunshot wound.

At this hour deputies are asking for the public assistance in locating a person of interest identified as Jarrett M. Andrews, age 23, of Rayne.  He is believed to be driving a 2000 Daewoo tan in color bearing Louisiana license plate WLD835.  Anyone knowing his whereabouts is asked to contact the Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office at 788-8700.

The victim's identification is being withheld pending notification of family.

The investigation continues.
