NEW ORLEANS (AP) - In a city that seems to have a festival for just about any occasion, there will soon be a new addition: One for food trucks.
On Thursday, food trucks are gathering in the Central City neighborhood to showcase their food and petition the city and residents to help their industry.
The event is part of a push to get more food trucks onto New Orleans' streets and to highlight redevelopment work along the Oretha Castle Haley corridor in Central City.
The Central City Food Truck Fest is to take place from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Stacy Head, a City Council at-large member who supports food trucks, says laws in New Orleans regulating the street trade date to the 1950s and need to be updated.
