Helicopter Hits Radio Tower in Crash

The Acadia Parish Sheriff's Office confirms one person died in a helicopter crash in a field off on Benton Road Wednesday.

Public information officer Maxine Trahan says that the crash victim is a male and is not a Louisiana native. His identity not yet been released.

The helicopter went down about at about 11:00 AM and a 911 call came in around 11:15 AM.

The helicopter crashed in a field off on Benton Road about 250 feet from a KYBG BIG 102.1 FM radio tower. The helicopter did hit a guide wire attached to the tower.

Before the crash the aircraft was flying low and hit the guide wire. The helicopter was then badly damaged. It is unconfirmed at this time how many people were actually in the Bell 206 4-seat helicopter.

The Helicopter owned by a company out of Texas. The crash area is considered dangerous because of a damaged guide wire that is not attached.

Deputies waiting on NTSB to arrive so they can do their own investigation.

We have a crew heading to the scene and will bring you more details as they become available.
