NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Firefighters are monitoring a marsh fire in a remote section of eastern New Orleans.
Authorities say firefighters were dispatched to the area just before 2 p.m. Tuesday and found an uninhabited two-mile area burning west of Interstate 510 between the Intercoastal Waterway and Bayou Bienvenue.
A northwesterly wind is blowing smoke over the Intercoastal Waterway and into an uninhabited portion of St. Bernard Parish.
The fire department and Mosquito Control planned Wednesday to conduct an aerial assessment to get a better indication of the fire's scope. The fire department says crews will also go out on all-terrain vehicles to try and determine what, if any, type of suppression activity is warranted.
