Hospital officials broke ground on a multimillion dollar expansion at Lafayette General Monday. The hospital's longest serving employee and its newest hire were part of today's ceremony along with LCG President Joey Durel.
The 52-million dollar project expands the hospital's ER and surgery departments. Once it's complete, the emergency department will feature 45 beds and two new trauma rooms and the new surgery area will have 13 operating rooms.
There will also be a new parking garage and turn lane on South College Drive.
David Calleceod The president and CEO of the hospital says these are long-lasting expansions.
"This certainly affects our ability to expand and grow and adapt, this is gonna position us for the future"
Construction is expected to wrap summer 2014.
