There's a new principal at Carencro Middle School. Dr. Spurgeon Banyard of Mississippi has been accused of verbal abuse, bullying, extortion and insubordination. According to reports, the superintendent who issued the termination was fired shortly thereafter. "If you look at the full record of this man you'll see he's done a great job where ever he has been," says Lafayette Parish School Superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper.
Superintendent Dr. Pat cooper stands firm in his choice to hire Banyard. Cooper says Banyard requested a hearing to clear his name. "So all those charges that we're put up against him were not able to be proven. In fact, they didn't happen. It was a lot of political stuff."
Cooper says Banyard's track record speaks volumes. He's turned schools around and increased tests scores. "He said I know I'm a good principal. I know I'm a good professional. I didn't want to leave that district with my name hanging in the balance. He said that's all he wanted to do. He said that they offered me my job I turned it down," explains Cooper.
Wednesday, October 10 at 5:30pm a meet and greet will be held at the Carencro Middle School. Cooper says it will be a great opportunity for parents and students to meet the new principal.
