Woman Booked For Vehicular Homicide

Around 4:15 this morning, the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office responded to a single vehicle accident at the 1500 block of Wright Road in Vinton.

Upon arrival, deputies spoke with the driver of the vehicle, Devon D. Courmier, 23, 1011 10th Street, Suite 207, Orange, Texas, they detected a strong odor of alcohol emitting from her breath. 

The preliminary investigation revealed the truck was traveling northbound on Wright Road and appeared to have run off the road to the right and hit a tree. 

Courmier and passenger, David Kurdupski, 24, Vidor, Texas, were transported to a local hospital where Kurdupski died as a result of his injuries. 

Courmier, who suffered non-life threatening injuries and was treated and released from the hospital, was arrested and booked into the Calcasieu Correctional Center and charged with vehicular homicide; DWI 1st; and careless operation.

As mandated by state law in all traffic fatalities, a toxicology report will be performed on Courmier.
