Update: Zachary Board Approves Devillier's Contract

Posted: Updated:

ZACHARY, La. (AP) - The Zachary Community School Board has approved a 32-month contract for new Superintendent Scott Devillier, who was chosen Oct. 25 to succeed Warren Drake.

The Advocate reports (http://bitly.com/SQOhjX ) the contract, approved Thursday, sets Devillier's base salary at $148,000 per year, with the possibility of earning up to $12,000 more per year for leading the district and individual schools in reaching specific academic goals.

Rather than provide Devillier with a vehicle or gas credit card, the board decided to pay him $700 a month for his travel in East Baton Rouge Parish.

The board will begin advertising Friday to fill Devillier's old position as director of operations and the new position of executive director of academics and support programs.

The 46-year-old Devillier has been the district's director of operations since 2010 and has been employed by the district since it began operations in July 2003.

The board approved hiring Devillier on Thursday

The Advocate reports (http://bit.ly/WNU5Ok ) Drake officially retired Sept. 4 but took a network leader's position with the state Department of Education. He became the district's first paid, full-time superintendent in August 2002.

State Education Department officials announced this week that Zachary is the top-ranked school system in Louisiana for the eighth consecutive year.

The board decided Thursday to continue interviewing Scott Devillier, Patrick Jenkins and Michelle Clayton.

Devillier and Jenkins are employed in the district, and Clayton was the district's accountability and curriculum director until earlier this year.

The board received 11 applications for the post vacated by Superintendent Warren Drake, who served for 10 years and took a position Sept. 4 as a regional network leader for state Education Superintendent John White.

The board plans to choose a new superintendent on Oct. 25.
