LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) - Federal prosecutors say a member of the Coushatta Tribe has pleaded guilty to an assault charge.
U.S. Attorney Stephanie A. Finley says 21-year-old Nicholas Tyler Poncho, of Elton, pleaded guilty Thursday before U.S. District Judge Patricia Minaldi to one count of assault with a dangerous weapon related to an incident that occurred on the tribe's reservation on Jan. 22.
Finley's office says Poncho admitted to intentionally striking his father with a 1.5 liter wine bottle, with the intent to do bodily harm.
Sentencing is set for Jan. 10. He faces up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
