If all goes as planned, trash pickup for Lafayette Parish could be back on track next week. Allied Waste Services has been collecting storm debris following Hurricane Issac and has a contract with Lafayette Consolidated. Mark pope, manager of Environmental Quality, oversees that contract.
Pope says storm clean-up is not part of Allied's job, but still they do it. The extra load has caused a delay in the normal routes. Pope isn't able to say when pick-up will be back to normal. However, Allied this week informed the city-parish council they're hoping at least by next week. "Each collection day is taking us two days maybe three days. We finished the Thursday route and we'll move to the Friday route. Whether they will be back on schedule Monday October 8th I cannot say.
I can tell you Allied Waste wants to get back on regular schedule as soon as possible. It benefits them and it benefits the citizens," says Pope.
