Acadiana Center for the Arts Announces its 2012-2013 Season Line-up of Kid-Friendly Performances 

Lafayette, LA - The Fugro Chance Family Performance Series was created to provide a venue for quality live performance for young audiences. The up-close setting of the James Devin Moncus Theater is the perfect atmosphere to introduce children to performing arts including dance, theater, music, puppetry, storytelling and more!

Marionetas de la Esquina presents

Emilio and the Enchanted Cow

Marionetas de la Esquina, a puppet theater company from Mexico, has been entertaining children and adults alike since 1975. Since their creation, the company has helped disseminate and develop the art of puppetry in Mexico. In 2006 the company received the Mexican National Prize for Children's Theater. After his parents' separation, Emilio makes up an imaginary friend, a Cow, to help him understand his new life. Throughout the play, the manipulators are completely hidden so as not to distract attention from Emilio's story.

Rock the Presidents is a high octane, multi-media filled musical revue spanning 223 years of the American presidency, from George Washington to Barack Obama. The 44 men who rose to the highest office in the land are brought to life through all new rock, pop and folk music. Audiences young and old alike will learn something new about our Presidents, while perhaps seeing something of themselves reflected in the stories on stage. With songs like "The Sons of Washington", a driving rock anthem honoring Washington's revolutionary idea of peacefully giving up power, and the jazz-inspired "Who In the World is Millard Fillmore?" celebrating some of the lesser-known Commanders in Chief, Rock the Presidents is sure to entertain audiences of all ages.

Sunjata Kamalenya

Sunjata Kamalenya (translated: Sunjata for Youth) is a new, completely interactive production that was created by the McCarter Theatre in Princeton, NJ. Audience members are encouraged to participate in the production that chronicles the struggles of a boy destined to be the leader of the Mande people of West Africa. Both parents and children can participate in the show. Traditional music, costumes, and scenery whisk you away to a village compound where the storyteller guides you to 13th century Mali. Audiences have a unique experience that celebrates the spirit of determination and the love of family in the face of seemingly impossible odds.

School performances are not open to the public but are available to public, private and home schooled students. Educators can call Paige Krause, Education Coordinator, at 337.233.7060 to book performances and for more information.

General Admission Seating: $15 adults, $10 kids

 

Family 4 Pack:
$40 for 4 adult or kids tickets to any one show. 

 

Family Performance Season Pass:

All 4 shows: $54 adults, $36 kids
