Iberia Parish District Attorney Phil Haney appeared before a disciplinary committee Thursday. Haney's accused of taking on a case in his private practice that was in direct conflict with his public post as district attorney.
The case was a boating accident back in 2007. Haney says he wrote a demand letter on behalf of a client injured in the accident. He says that was before the state filed its own charges in the same case. The results from today's hearing aren't available yet, but we'll keep you updated.
District Attorney to Face Disciplinary Board
District Attorney Phil Haney will appear before the Louisiana attorney disciplinary board on Thursday. Haney will address allegations that he violated rules of professional conduct.
Haney is accused of profiting in his private practice from a 2007 civil case which was a conflict of interest with his public office. The case was settled in December and Haney received a $20,000 legal fee.
