Soon the New Iberia Research Center will lose a significant population of chimpanzees.
The facility owned and operated by UL Lafayette will be able to continue biomedical research, but with only privately owned primates.110 chimpanzees owned by the National Institute of Health are being retired from research and will move to two different locations.
The termination of funding in August 2013 for the center provided by the NIH is the reason for the move.
