CULLOWHEE, N.C. – The Ragin' Cajuns soccer team is set to face two Big South Conference opponents in Campbell and Gardner-Webb this weekend at the Catamount Classic in Cullowhee, N.C. The contests are the last two tune-ups for the Cajuns before opening Sun Belt Conference play next Friday.
"I am really excited about the direction the girls are going heading into conference play," head coach Scot Wieland said. "Campbell and Garner-Webb are good teams, and we will have to be at our best if we want to go into conference with a winning record. To do so we have to be more consistent. If we play consistent we are going to be a pretty darn good team."
UL (4-3-0) opens the weekend with Campbell on Friday at 4 p.m. CT, while the Gardner-Webb match is slated for 11 a.m. CT on Sunday.
The Cajuns are coming off of a 4-2 defeat at Southeastern, La. this past Sunday. Senior Erin Lynn notched her team leading fourth goal in the contest, but it wasn't enough as three second half goals for the Lions was the difference in the contest.
Lynn has posted a goal in three of the Cajuns' last four matches and is currently tied for third in the Sun Belt in goals. As a team, the Cajuns are tied for 29th in the country in goals scored (18). Nine different UL players have combined to find the back of the net this season.
The Camels (3-1-1) have won two of their last three matches including wins against Marshall and Elon. Campbell is led by sophomore Ashley Clark who has a team-best four goals and nine points.
This is the first meeting between Louisiana and the Camels and only the second meeting for the Cajuns against a squad from the Big South.
UL is also meeting the Bulldogs (1-4-0) for the first time. Gardner-Webb recently snapped a four-match losing skid on Tuesday with a 3-0 victory at USC Upstate. The Bulldogs are paced by freshman Shelby Hooe as she has two goals including a game-winner this year.
Wieland is currently only two wins short of reaching the 50-win plateau while at the helm of the Cajuns.
