Some LSU Clinics Close, Emergency Rooms will Remain Open

Isaac prompts Extended Closure of some LSU Clinics and Services

LSU Health's Hospitals and Emergency Rooms will Remain Open during the Hurricane

Baton Rouge- The slow pace of Hurricane Isaac has resulted in an extended closure of some LSU clinics and services. However, LSU Health's statewide network of hospitals remains open and ready to treat emergencies during and after the storm.  Each hospital has discharged noncritical patients, cancelled elective surgeries and increased staff and services as needed in preparation for Hurricane Isaac.

Temporary closures of some outpatient clinics and services have been extended at the following locations:

Earl K. Long Medical CenterBaton Rouge- has cancelled all elective surgeries and closed outpatient clinics on Wednesday, August 29 and Thursday, August 30.  The hospital will resume normal operations on Friday, August 31.

The Interim LSU Public Hospital - New Orleans -will discontinue all elective surgeries and close outpatient clinics on Wednesday, August 29, and Thursday, August 30.  Hospital administrators continue to monitor the situation and will reopen services as soon as weather conditions permit.

Lallie Kemp Regional Medical Center- Independence - has cancelled all outpatient clinics, elective surgeries, chemotherapy infusion and is on surgery diversion for Wednesday, August 29 and Thursday, August 30. The hospital will resume normal operations on Friday, August 31, beginning at 7 a.m.

Leonard J. Chabert Medical Center – Houma- has cancelled all outpatient clinics and elective surgeries for Wednesday, August 29, and Thursday, August 30.  All non essential hospital personnel are not required to report to work on Thursday unless otherwise notified. LJCMC will resume normal operations on Friday, August 31 at 7a.m.

LSU Bogalusa Medical Center- Bogalusa- All outpatient clinics are closed and elective surgeries discontinued through Thursday, August 30. Normal operations will resume on Friday, August 31, at 7a.m.

University Medical Center – Lafayette – All outpatient clinics and elective surgeries are canceled Wednesday, August 29, and Thursday, August 30. At this time, plans are to reopen on Friday, August 31, but patients should monitor the media for updates should weather conditions change.

Walter O. Moss Regional Medical Center – Lake Charles – All services are operational.

The Health Care Services Division of LSU Health is one of the largest public healthcare delivery systems in the country.  It has over 33,000 inpatient admissions, 172,000 inpatient days, 583,000 outpatient clinic visits, 1,118,000 outpatient encounters, and 269,000 emergency department encounters.  Each year more than 1,200 residents and fellows from the LSU and Tulane Schools of Medicine and Ochsner Health System and 2,900 nursing and allied health students from many colleges and universities are trained in LSU HCSD facilities.
