Sheriff Craig Webre has reported the arrest of a Golden Meadow man earlier today, after reports were received stating that Jeremy Rogers, DOB 2/23/1980, 8874 Highway 308, Lockport, LA, was seen breaking into a vehicle and thereafter attempting to break into a residence along West 217th Street in Golden Meadow. Deputies promptly responded and after receiving a clear description of the perpetrator, began their efforts to locate him.
An eyewitness advised deputies that Rogers was seen entering a black F-150 at the Pelican Truck Plaza in Galliano. A search for the vehicle led deputies to the Tobacco Plus Outlet wherein deputies located and approached Rogers who exited the vehicle and stated "What..I didn't break into no house". It was at that point that Rogers fled from the scene and a foot chase ensued. Rogers was subsequently apprehended in the area of West 110th Street, Cut Off.
Due to the Parish of Lafourche being under a declared State of Emergency, Jeremy Rogers is being charged with Looting (RS. 14:62.5) which allows for enhanced fines and penalties. Rogers was also charged with Simple Criminal Damage to Property (RS 14:56), Attempted Simple Burglary of an Inhabited Dwelling (RS 14:62.2) and Resisting an Officer (RS 14:108).
Sheriff Webre has stated that this type of behavior is absolutely unacceptable at any time of the year but especially more so during a time of crisis. Webre further stated that Jeremy Rogers' actions today are a heinous example of someone who truly has no regard for the rights of law abiding citizens. LPSO deputies are to be commended for their extraordinary efforts to apprehend Rogers under such extreme circumstances. Webre went on to state that the citizens of Lafourche can rest assured that deputies will remain on high alert throughout the storm and the recovery phase. Every effort will continue to be made to protect the citizens who have remained sheltered in place for the duration of the storm, as-well-as to protect the property of those who have evacuated.
Jeremy Rogers has an extensive criminal history extending back through 2004. Over recent years he has been charged with vehicular homicide; DWI; failing to maintain control of a vehicle; DWI 3rd offense; operating a vehicle with a suspended license; and expired motor vehicle inspection sticker. His most recent charges incurred June 27, 2012, included possession of hydrocodone; possession of oxycodone and operating a vehicle with a suspended license, for which he was released after posting bond on August 9, 2012.
Jeremy Rogers remains incarcerated at the Lafourche Parish Detention Center on an $11,000.00 bond as set by Judge Leblanc.
