Our lady of Lourdes is looking for contractors to dismantle one of their old buildings on their St Landry Street campus. That's because when the new Our Lady of Lourdes regional medical center opened last year on Ambassador Caffery, it left the old hospital empty and on the market. In fact the entire campus, which includes 12 buildings and 3 parking towers, is for sale for 34 million dollars.
But over a year has passed and still no buyers. The hospital has maintained the vacant building but does so at a hefty price. Elisabeth Arnold, Communications Director at Our Lady of Lourdes, says it cost them about 70 thousand each month to maintain the vacant building. . But it would cost them 2 million to take down.
Hospital officials want to stress that no explosives will be used. It will be dismantled in pieces. The other facilities on the campus will not be affected. The property is still for sale.
