A long-planned, new super-veterans clinic and hospital for Acadiana is starting to become more of a reality. Four sites in Lafayette have been identified as potential locations.
There are four sites that the Department of Veteran's Affairs has approved. No date has been set for development - but the pre-bid process for a developer may soon be underway.
One site is this location on Ambassador Caffery across from the Walmart. Another site just up the road is across from the Sam's Club.
One request from veteran affairs is that at least 150 parking spaces can be built near the new facility.
Joseph Phillips is a Vietnam Veteran who prefers to use his private health insurance.
He says the co-pay is worth it and beats going to the VA clinic in Lafayette because, the wait time can be hours.
"I go to my doctor I'm in there maybe 20 minutes. You go to the VA clinic you be there 4-5 hours and why should I go up there take somebody else's space when I can afford to pay for my medical right now" says Joseph Phillips.
Next week the Department of Veteran's Affairs is hosting a pre-bid conference here in Lafayette. It will be held Tuesday, August 7th at the courtyard Marriott.
