Leaders in Vermilion Parish want to develop a committee designed to keep local business owners happy and to bring new businesses to the parish.
A group known as, the Vermilion Parish Economic Development Committee wants to develop an economic department that would consist of two people with a proposed budget of $250,000 a year.
The purpose of the department is to get the seventh highest growing parish in the state to continue growing.
Members of the police jury and the mayors of Abbeville and Maurice met to discuss the plans for the new economic development department Monday.
The Economic Development Department would concentrate on local businesses, big and small, and find out what their needs are and help them achieve those needs.
