St. Martin Parish Cruelty To Animals Arrest

Posted: Updated:

An arrest has been made in St. Martin Parish involving cruelty to animals. Edmae Vital, 34, was arrested on 4 counts of aggravated cruelty and 6 counts of simple cruelty to animals. Vital was the owner of a two-year old Aussie Shepherd and her seven, 6-week old puppies. The dogs were found on Vital's property on Wednesday.

The mother has a severe gash in her neck, from a chain that was eventually moved to her waist. The seven puppies were found in a chicken coop and were severely mal-nourished. Two of the puppies lost limbs due to the neglect. As of this afternoon, a rescue agency in Nebraska called, Start Over Rover, was flying in to take the animals.

Coordinator of the St. Martin Parish Animal Services, Michelle Brignac said "They are going to fully vet them and care for them and get them healthy. They will actually be keeping us updated as to their health and well-being and when they get adopted."
